Disfunctional Family, Well Duh!

Have you ever heard someone say that they came from a Disfunctional family?  Hell, we ALL came from disfuntional families!

One of my favorite all time TV shows is The Andy Griffith Show.  I would love to live in the idealistic little town of Mayberry.  But even when you look at sweet little Opie’s life, you’ll see that even he came from a disfuntional family.

Opie’s mom is dead.  We don’t know for sure how old Opie was when she died.  Andy says something to Opie at one point about him being the “least little speck of a baby” when his Ma passed away.

Opie spends a lot of time hanging out at the town jail where he is a good friend of the Town Drunk, Otis.  Opie also befriends the prisoners that Andy incarcerates from time to time and accompanies his Aunt Bee on visits to the jail when she is bringing food to the prisoners.

A HUGE influence in Opie’s life is the Bumbling, scatter brained deputy, Barney Fife.   He also had the other pillars of the community to look up to.  Goober Pyle, Gomer Pyle and Floyd the barber that didn’t seem to have a brain cell in his head!

But seriously, think about your friends.  Do any of them have an ideal family?  I bet you can’t name ONE.

We all have dysfunctional families to some extent – nobody is perfect, but there are some that really put the “fun” in dysfunctional! My family was closer to The Brady Bunch than Andy Griffith, but I know people who made Married, With Children seem like some ideal to live up to, and those were the nicer ones 😉
